Cant send any emails out that have any sizable attachments

Postby marcus.whybrow on Fri May 18, 2007 1:54 pm

Right, i tried to send an email recently from inside the network with two attachments, amounting to 16mb.

Shortly afterwards, I get a email from "system administrator" which says:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

**********@hotmail.com on 18/05/2007 13:33
This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.
<phrixus.whybrow.local #5.2.3 smtp;450 5.2.3 Msg Size greater than allowed by Remote Host>

*************@hotmail.com on 18/05/2007 13:33
This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.
<phrixus.whybrow.local #5.2.3 smtp;450 5.2.3 Msg Size greater than allowed by Remote Host>

Ok, so i don't know if this fixed it but this is what i did:

i went to my Default SMTP Virtual Server, and changed the limitations in the properties box, which sure enough were set at a 2mb email limit, so i assume that was the problem, I also removed all other limitations. and then ran "gpupdate", i cant remember if that helps, but i did it anway, well i sent the email again after changes had been made, but before the gpupdate, and i got the same sysadmin message, but then i sent it again after the gpupdate, and i have had not sysadmin message, so i assume the gpupdate helped, or if no the limitations had propagated through the system naturally.

If anyone can give me some clarification on this matter i would be very greatfull.

Thanks marcus.[/quote]

Well that didn't work

OK, well the sollution i just mentioned didn't work, the sysadmin message, i just talked about, was correct, but one of the messages i forgot to actually attach the attachments, and so was under the size limit, and therefore sent.

So in actual fact i didn't fix anything, and I am noware close to solving it, so all is well.

If anyone has a sollution, I will be very greatful for you responce.

If you look carefully at the message, this part is most important:

Msg Size greater than allowed by Remote Host

ie. The message is too big for hotmail. Nothing you can do unfortunately. You did go about troubleshooting it in the right way though. Exchange's default message size limit is 20mb (in the global settings section of the ESM).
